The Warden of the Void stared at the vox-caster at the center of the table, not entirely sure of what he was hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCould you\u2026 repeat that?\u201d Kallor Veyran asked. Apparently he wasn\u2019t quite sure either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unit crackled as the audio coming through it suddenly spiked in volume. \u201cI\u2019ve been cursed by Tzeentch!\u201d came out of the vox, just before a long sequence of what the Warden had recently learned were Prosperine curses. \u201cIt was a trap!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veyran made a displeased face. \u201cOrks set a trap for you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warden muttered, \u201cGhazghkull is quite cunning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veyran gave him a baleful look, saying \u201cORKS?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warden shrugged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTZEENTCH!\u201d the vox shouted. There was another string of invective in the dead language of Prospero. \u201cAll of it! Everything since you came to get me, possibly before that! All of it to maneuver us here, make us confident, and then destroy us!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veyran suddenly looked as aghast as it was possible for an Astartes to look. \u201cOur successes these last months\u2026 the victories, one after another\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cALL FALSE!\u201d the sorcerer yelled from the speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lord looked to the Warden. \u201cDo you \u2013 \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI absolutely believe it,\u201d the Warden cut him off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe curse \u2013 \u201c There was a static noise from the speaker, then a much louder noise that was similar to but not quite static, and then Calchas Saltram shouted in pain. \u201cIt will take me some time to unbind it. And I\u2019m not the only one. The Pale Accord definitely. Scryix and the Fangguard, possibly. The Covenant. And the daemon prince, that \u2013 \u201c more 30th<\/sup> millennium profanity \u2013 \u201cthing, I\u2019m pretty sure was never on our side to begin with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Veyran started to look angrier and angrier the Warden tried to get his head around the situation. \u201cWhat is the nature of the curse?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo one can look at me!\u201d Calchas yelled. \u201cIt makes unit discipline impossible. You\u2019ll involuntarily turn away if you try to look in my direction. If you keep trying you\u2019ll start getting physical symptoms, pain, nausea, dizziness. If you keep trying after that I think there\u2019s a good chance your head will explode.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVery direct for Tzeentch,\u201d the Warden said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veyran sighed. \u201cWhat do we do?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor now \u2013 \u201c more pained shouting. \u201cNothing. We carry on without the afflicted units. I\u2019ll crack it eventually. But once I cure myself I have to figure out how to cure the others without actually looking at them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warden muttered again, \u201cas planned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re tracking Grimnar as we speak,\u201d Veryran said. \u201cWe anticipate contact in the next day or so. We are almost at the final push and he has to be broken first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll have to be broken without my help!\u201d Calchas shouted. \u201cAnd definitely not the Pale Accord either. Send someone to the Covenant and the Fangguard and see if they can be in the same room with them. Scryix, though\u2026\u201d A spitting noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warden commented, \u201cperhaps there will be detectable changes in his constant incoherent screaming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCalchas,\u201d Veyran said, leaning into the vox unit. \u201cIs this a complete disaster?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d the response came back. \u201cNot indefinitely. I just need time. After the Wolves, when do you move against the Sisters?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veyran said, \u201csoon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was another loud staticky noise and screaming over the vox. \u201cI\u2019ll try to work faster.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
